Rode another 200+ miles today on the new beast. This bike fixes every problem I had with my DL-1000. It’s stable at speed. It’s has more torque for exiting corners. The suspension feels tighter. It’s stable when cranking on the brakes with the ABS engaged.
I’ve been “taking it easy” as I try to follow Yamaha’s brake-in instructions. As a result I’ve left the bike in touring mode and I’m getting an average of 48.8 mpg. Nice.
It’s time to start ordering parts. A tank bag is first on my list. Crash bars and a bash plate from AltRider are next. I know they are back ordered so I’m not in a super big hurry.

It’s arrived so I have departed.

My dealer called me this morning bright and early at 9. I didn’t get out of bed until about 10. Oops. Anyway… After running a few required errands, the woman and I swung by the Yamaha dealership. Sign some papers and off.
The bike had 1 mile on the odometer when I rolled out. Now it has 73. Tomorrow, if I’m feeling good enough, I’ll see if I can rack up another couple hundred miles. This cough is lingering a little longer than I would like. Still, learning a new bike is a lot of fun.
Well… I’ve been sick for over a week now.
The coughing has gotten bad enough that I get light-headed immediately after a round of coughing. Not good. The woman is telling me to go back to my doctor tomorrow. We’ll see if I can even get an appointment.
I hate being sick and yet my machine isn’t as strong as some others. I got pneumonia shortly after I was born. That kind of set the tone for my general health. My respiratory system has never been the best and things that other shrug off knock me to the ground. It seems like once a year, I get hit hard by something. Such is life.

Nick Sanders: The Pan-American Double
About 40 minutes ago, Nick was in Two Creeks, AB on his way north.
How can you call your self a “news” organization when you knowingly misrepresent the facts because your owner got caught with his hands in the cookie jar?
Case in point, Fox is presenting the News of the World as the victim of hacking scandal. Isn’t the true, they are the perpetrators of the hacking? News of the World has been shutdown, but police in the UK and the FBI in the US are investigating the methods used by NOTW used to “gather” information with an eye on criminal prosecutions against NOFW staff. When law enforcement in two countries is on your back, you probably aren’t innocent. Know what I mean Sparky? Isn’t it also true the Fox and News of the World are both owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.?

It’s called lying. No matter how you slice it. Fox is either lying to themselves and grossly negligent in their duties for fact checking or they are knowingly lying to the public.
I don’t know which is worse… The stupidity of News Corp or the stupidity of the public that buys the products that they sell.
Kind of reminds me of Orwell’s 1984 visa-vie selective rewriting of history to suit the goals of the powers that be. The real question is, “Will people believe the lies?” The sad fact is that it is easier to believe a lie than use your brain to ask meaningful questions.
I found this in Jimmy Nilsson’s book, Applying Domain-Driven Design…
For me, I can see using this when rehydrating object sent over the wire or pulled from a database. If your class uses a self-created GUID to determine uniqueness, then you’d have to override that value when building an object up with predetermined values.
Anyway, here’s the code.

For my current project, I’m doing some statistical analysis. Part of that requires finding the mean and standard deviation for my collection of samples.
Because of the data source, I need to use the formula for “Population Standard Deviation” which is a little different from the formula for “Standard Deviation.” The denominator is “n” instead of “n – 1”. The word from my client is that in sample sizes over 20 the difference between the two formulas is negligible. Since we are running tests in a 96 well microplates, my sample count could be very low. Especially when you factor in the multiple sample sources, calibration samples and quality control samples on each microplate.

Friday morning, I tried to fire up my SuperDuke. Kuh-chug. Kuh. Kuh. Click. Click. “Crap.”
I guess I’m not going to be in the office “in a couple minutes.” I attached my battery tender and fidgeted for another 15 minutes. Kuh-chug. Kuh. Click. Click. <sigh>
Out comes the FJR. In goes the SuperDuke. Back on the battery tender. Not a great way to start my day.

I managed to escape the insanity again. The woman and I went to Banff over the long Fourth of July weekend. Given a choice, I always leave the US during Independence Day holiday weekend.
Too damn many drunks with attitude problems.
Too many cops with attitude problems.
I think I’ve been ‘in country’ once in the last 8 years if memory serves me right.
Anyway…
Our first night in BC was on Canada Day. That meant fireworks at our hotel in Fairmont. A nice mellow affair with kids sliding down a grassy hill as the warm-up entertainment. I’ve never had fireworks going off right over my head before, as in we had to dodge the embers as they fell. Nice.
Our next hotel was in Canmore, AB. We stayed there for two nights as we explored new parts of the park. Then back to Fairmont for a couple more nights.
We had a very nice, mellow, quiet holiday.
PS: Still no news on my Super Ténéré. <sigh>
