Ramp Up: Pt2

September 25th, 2009

I am struggling a bit with ths topic: “Ramping up.”

Wednesday, I forgot my phone, glasses, and external hard drive.

Thursday, I forgot my phone and wallet.

Today, I remembered everything but I found an issue in the latest release in the Infragistics WPF controls so I’m wallowing a bit trying to decide if I should work around the issue for the moment or plow straight through.

So I am having a bit of trouble ramping up as it were.

In case you were wondering, the flight from Dallas to Portland was delayed for 3.5 hours due to weather issues. Having grown up in the Midwest, I wasn’t exactly surprised to see a long line of storm cells running from Dallas up to southern Missouri. They were Red on the weather radar display. It still sucked to be stuck in an airport and American Airlines made no effort to improve the situation. The core problem was they didn’t have a plane for us to depart on. It was up in Oklahoma City, right in the middle of that nasty storm system. So once the storms cleared out of DFW, we were still stuck while the very same storm rolled through Oklahoma. Poor planning to say the least.

We got landed in Portland at 1:30am on Tuesday. Add another 45 minute to get our bags and take a taxi home.

The best benefit of my vacation is the return of sleep. I am actually sleeping again. I got to bed before midnight and I’m usually awake before the alarm goes off at 7:15.

The woman and I have discussed the required minimum trip length. She says 11 days. I say 9. One day to get ready. 7 days away including travel days. One day to get everything rolling again, upon return. She adds 2 travel days, because they don’t count as vacation time in her mind. Something to think about.
