Sleep?

Why am I always lacking in the sleep department?

Umm… Because I don’t sleep.

Friday:
“Are we on?” “Yes.” “OK I’m leaving my place around 7. I should be at yours around 7:45.” And so begins the trip to Garibaldi for deep sea fishing. I pick up Scott and his daughter. Together we venture west to the coast. The daughter is asleep before we hit the coastal range. 4th meal at Denny’s. It’s been a long time since I did that.

Saturday:
05:15. Ring, ring, ring. “Yeah” “Morning sunshine!” “Fuck you.” Click.
05:45. Knock, knock, knock. I hand the keys and return to brushing my teeth.
06:00. Sign-in at the charter place.
06:30. On the boat, with a box of donuts, Dr Pepper and water.
08:00. Back at the dock. We couldn’t get past the bar at the mouth of the bay. No fishing for us.

It was actually very interesting. The daughter really wanted to go fishing. Scott really wanted to go fishing. I was along for the ride because I didn’t know what I wanted to do but I do enjoy spending time with my friends. I ended up standing on the side of the boat, holding on to the railing, watching the standing waves at the end of the jetties. Our captain tried three times over the course of an hour to find a good line through the surf. The wind continued to increase and it was cutting the tops off of the waves. It was a churning mess from my perspective. I was outside because if I get too warm, I get motion sick. The cabin was heated and my layers of fleece and gore-tex were doing their jobs. Burf.

10:00. I’m back in Portland, looking forward to crawling back into bed this time with my lover. We slept until after 13:00.

I got up and ran errands until almost 18:00. I scored more motorcycle parts from the KTM dealership, checked out a bike for Scott and took a few pics to aid in the process, had more house keys made and talked to Gene at Doc Brown Motorcycle for a bit. Another nap until 20:00. Dinner with the woman. A trip to Powell’s. I scored the new Richard K Morgan book and some more subversive materials: Jesus Interrupted, Revealing the Hidden Contradictions in the Bible (And Why We Don’t Know About Them) by Bart Ehrman and Hell’s Angels by Hunter S. Thompson. I guess I am a bit of an iconoclast. Ya think? LOL

Now it is after midnight, almost 01:00. She’s playing Warhammer on the other side of our office while I surf for motorcycles and catch up on emails. I’m tired. I suppose I should stop fighting it and head to bed.
