New Snare…

…is in the house.  I finally decided that I wanted the Joey Jordison Signature enough to actually pay for it.  So today in the middle of running a variety of errands, I took a little detour to Guitar Center.

Tonight I upgraded WordPress and I haven’t figured out how to attach images correctly, so you don’t get to see any pic of the new toy.

Wired: The Seven Habits of Highly Ineffective Terrorists

I found this interesting article today. I have to agree. I have had my own experiences. When I lived in Alaska, one of the guys in my Anthropology classes was what we would now call an Islamic Fundamentalist. He talked about wanting to move to Pakistan and live a more pure life with the Pashtuns, never mind his Midwestern upbringing and his oh so pale complexion. He wouldn’t eat pork. He believed women should be kept and covered. I never saw him pray on the schedule as required, but he was pretty gung ho about all the rest, especially restrictions against women. He was isolated in a very isolating place. Even in Anthropology circles, where the odd is normal, he was a pariah. His idea of faith WAS his community. He had nothing else.

So what does that say about us?

We exile those with differing views.  Is that a bad thing or is it just part of defining a culture?

Looking back, that dude was really weird.  At that time in my life (and generally speaking) I’ve very accepting of different views and ideas about how to live.  But telling me that my wife should be covered and silence isn’t exactly cool with me.  First, you live your way and I will live mine.  I’ll eat what I like.  Live how I please and I will suffer the consequences for my choices, so fuck right off.  Second, do not ever assume you have any right to tell me how to conduct my life or my marriage.  Third, dude.  It’s Alaska.  Do you think you are ever going to get laid with that approach to women?

Friday:
I split from work a couple hours early on Friday. The final moment has come and the woman is free of her business partner. We needed to go pick up all of the computer hardware and start dropping systems into place in the new office.

I have another ear infection. I woke up in pain Friday night, which is a very rare event. I knew I had been flirting with another infection for a couple weeks. Things would start to itch. I’d take extra decongestants and the itching would stop. Alas, I pushed too hard for too long and my body reminded me to slow down. So I started my meds and settled into avalox haze…

Saturday:
I started the winter tune-up on the FJR. I changed the oil and filter. I finally installed the K & N air filter. I need to pull the tank and drop in new plugs.

We made a trip to Iguana Micro to pick up another monitor and send the server motherboard back for repair.

Sunday:
Couch. Motorcycle travel shows on the Speed channel.

The Ducati needs its 600 mile service. According the shop manual, I need to change the oil and filter, check the chain tension and give everything a once over.

Maybe I’ll get around to that before spring arrives…  Maybe not.  The work never seems to end.

I have come to one conclusion.  I really need to take one day a week just for myself.  I stay away from the computers.  If I do log on, it’s just to play a game or check my email.  This one day a week, I shall not fire up the compiler or pick up a tool to work on yet another computer.  So my Sunday’s have become sacrosanct.  I shall slam on my kit, zone out in front of the TV, sleep past noon or play Peggle until my eye de-focus.  But I shall not think about logic structures, architecture designs or scan the boards for the latest news on some new toy from Microsoft and/or codeplex.
