Almost

June 30th, 2008 No comments

Almost finished. I need to mow the grass at the old place and take care of a few more things then it will be done. Almost…

Unfortunately, we’ve hit a hot streak and it was over 100 degrees on Saturday. Today was in the 90s with thunderstorms. Wonderful. Still, the move is almost finished. Maybe, at some point, I’ll be able to get some sleep. I’d really like to head north before the holiday stupidity starts, but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen this year. Oh well.

Three Things Every American Should Know

I found this a few minutes ago. It is a very interesting argument and it dovetails with my rants on the decline of civil liberites in our society.

Event Horizon

June 27th, 2008 No comments

According to Wikipedia an event horizon is:

In general relativity, an event horizon is a boundary in spacetime, an area surrounding a black hole, beyond which events cannot affect an outside observer. Light emitted from inside the horizon can never reach the observer, and anything that passes through the horizon from the observer’s side is never seen again.

I am approaching my own event horizon. I know changes are coming but I can’t see past them. Read more…

Idol Chatter

June 26th, 2008 No comments

Do you remember the Billy Idol interview with that title? It was in Penthouse when I was too young to buy Penthouse. Yet, I found a way… I don’t think my mother ever figured out that the back side of that Idol picture had a pair of women engaged in ‘activities’ on the back side. <snicker>

CD run last night. I spent a few moments ripping:

  • Billy Idol – The Very Best of
  • Disturbed – Indestructible
  • Tokio Hotel – Scream
  • Queensryche – Sign of the Times: The Best of
  • Motley Crue – Saints of Los Angeles

Iron Maiden – Piece of Mind is still in the car…

The Idol collection included a DVD which I have running on my development machine. Some of these videos I haven’t seen in years. Seeing ‘Catch My Fall’ reminded me of a few things. Read more…

Insanity

Today:

  • Movers to get the really big stuff.
  • Qwest is coming to fix the DSL feed.
  • Pavers to repair the end of the driveway. This is a possible. A hard date wasn’t set as the job is a super-small fill-in for the vendor.

90% of the contents are already moved.

Sleep

June 20th, 2008 No comments

I can’t sleep. It is 03:03.

I bailed from work around 14:00 after getting my code to run through all of it’s test patterns for the first time. I came home and crawled into bed. I resurrected around 18:30. Food and back to the house where I loaded up the truck with stuff for the Rebuilding Center (link). I am dropping off a light fixture, shelving, a built-in desk with 3 cabinets that formed the platform w/ 10 drawers, some wooden bathroom thingies (towel rods, curtain hooks, etc), a mirror, a vanity kind of thing, a sink with faucet, and the bathroom counter that I ripped out a few weeks ago with extra tile to repair what I broke removing it. The whole load filled the bed of the truck and the back seat. It’s a lot of cra… err.. stuff. Someone might want some or all of it and giving it to charity keeps it out of the landfill at least for a while.

I should go back to bed. Tomorrow is going to be a very long day and the start of a very long (and possibly rainy) weekend.

Doctor’s orders / Electrician == Destruction

June 19th, 2008 No comments

I was told to take it easy. To focus on getting more sleep and take a few days off from the remodeling/moving effort. This was my instruction at 5pm yesterday. I went home laid down for 10 minutes then was off again. Dinner and a trip to IKEA for bedroom furniture and lighting fixtures. When we got to the house around 21:00, I discovered the wonderful surprises left by the electrician. Yea! Read more…

Slacker

I admit it. I didn’t get anything done on the house last night. I ended up at the old place, with my feet up, Mike Hard Lime, and blood spirting everywhere via Gears of War. (I love those head shots when the grub’s head pops straight up uncorking a blood geyser.) I ended up in bed around 10 or 10:30. I fell asleep with my book on the House of Saud open and the light still on.

I think I am starting to get caught up on my sleep. I have not worked on the house in the last 3 nights. There’s a big push for the weekend, but that doesn’t start until tomorrow. Read more…

Change over

June 10th, 2008 No comments

Phone line: I haven’t had one of those in years.

DSL service: I’m sick and tired of Comcast and their monthly rate increases.

DirecTV: I’ll order this too once I figure out how many TVs and which kind…

Painting: I hate painting. The office needs one final touch-up and it will be finished.
