Quest for…
Sleep.
Sleep has been a challenge lately. Actually, it is not sleep per say. It’s feeling rested. They kind of go together, but not always. Right now, I feel exhausted which is the norm for me most days. I shut everything down early last night. Well, not early really. I turned off my light before midnight, which is early for me. Then I had a terrible night. Someone’s car alarm went off. Someone with a very small penis decided we all needed to wake up to hear his car as he screeched out of the parking lot at some disgusting hour. And I couldn’t get my neck into the right position all night long. In short, I didn’t sleep last night.
Today, accordingly, sucked. I managed to survive, but it was not a fun experience. The budget program that I am supposed to be working on is still in limbo. We got an initial specification for one of the management dudes late this afternoon. The entire team sat around reading it. There is no way it can work based upon the spec we were given today. In the spec we were provided, the relationships between data sets are written as if they are rigidly enforced. Nothing could be father from the truth. The current relationship mapping system has been graphed on to an amorphous mound of shifting crap… I mean data. People insert new types and classes of data in the wrong place within the superstructure and there are no controls to stop them. This is one of the great joys of working with AS/400 & DB2. DB2 sucks ass. It worked great in the stone age, but it is seriously ass-fucking us now.
That discussion kind of sums up my day. I worked on SharePoint all day. I still don’t have it working the way I want, but I feel that I if I can learn 2 new tricks and get a blessing from some as yet unknown deity, I’ll have it figured out.
Know any deities that I can petition for insight and/or grace?
Well, me neither.
I was really dragging when I got home. I heated up leftovers from my Mother and dove into working on the project again. I need to build up a membership based web site. I haven’t had to do that yet in ASP.net, so it is a new trick to learn. So far it isn’t going well. I think that is more about the way my database servers are setup than any actual coding problem. I am tempted to uninstall SQL Server 2005 and reinstall it using the default instance name. I think that would make things much easier to manipulate.
Now, it’s after 20:00. I still tired and I know I need to get some extra sleep tonight. Time for me to migrate my laundry over and head to bed.
