Sleep.
Sleep has been a challenge lately. Actually, it is not sleep per say. It’s feeling rested. They kind of go together, but not always. Right now, I feel exhausted which is the norm for me most days. I shut everything down early last night. Well, not early really. I turned off my light before midnight, which is early for me. Then I had a terrible night. Someone’s car alarm went off. Someone with a very small penis decided we all needed to wake up to hear his car as he screeched out of the parking lot at some disgusting hour. And I couldn’t get my neck into the right position all night long. In short, I didn’t sleep last night. Read more…
Christine crahsed yesterday afternoon on a group ride. Not good. Not bad, as in ‘really bad,’ but not good. Everything is still attached. Cracked bone in her wrist, bumps, bruises and the SV needs umm… a bit of work. Read more…

Have you ever noticed the cyclical nature of things visa-vie thoughts, actions, issues/problems, behaviours, ad nauseum?
Once again I am working on Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 (MOSS). This is a cyclical effort. I had been working on it a few months ago, then my new boss explicitly ordered me to stop Read more…

- You must not give the world what it asks for, but what it needs.
- Besides a mathematical inclination, an exceptionally good mastery of one’s native tongue is the most vital asset of a competent programmer.

- Programming is one of the most difficult branches of applied mathematics; the poorer mathematicians had better remain pure mathematicians.
Edsger W. Dijkstra (1930 – 2002) was a Dutch Computer Scientist, invented the concept of “structured programming”.
Barely lucid.

After my crappy week, I decided that I should try to get away for a bit. Maybe a weekend. Maybe just over night. I don’t know.
I keep feeling that what I really need is to wake up some place new or at least different. The lodge in Pemberton would be about perfect, but it is too far away with the time that I have. I have never stayed there two nights in a row. Just to sleep, lounge in the hot tub, go down to Whistler and pedal an afternoon away. Something different. Read more…

Everyone is still alive and kicking. My Mom’s pace maker was installed on Wednesday morning. There were a few difficulties, but she’s doing fine. Actually, she doing better than I had expected. When I talked to her 2 days ago, she was still struggling with her lack of energy. I reminded her that the Dr said her O2 levels would be low for a couple weeks until her heart rhythm mellowed out and resync’d. Read more…

I’m tired. Although I slept, I awoke exhausted, restless, and unfulfilled. As usual, I am wanting more.
To be more…
To do more…
To think more…
To reach the goals I have set for myself…
To live by the designs written in my flesh…
To transform myself into…
I don’t know. Today is a struggle for survival.

Mind: slow.
Body temperature: elevated.
Caffeine level: inadequate.

Dear Diary,
I made it through another week.
Actually it was all kind of a pissed off blur. I don’t remember what happened. I remember restoring another database. I remember setting up a couple more backup plans. We got a NAS. I immediately took half of it and started to dump non-critical backups on to it.
Today, I tried to hack the NAS. The network manager said I could play so long as I didn’t solder anything or destroy the firmware. That doesn’t leave a whole lot of entertainment! I could have downloaded a simple Linux kernel and tried to boot the device off of USB or plugged in a console and tried that method. <shrug> It’s not mine and it is so new there aren’t any published hacks for it yet. Everything online talks about the previous version which is very different from a hardware perspective.
For lunch, I went for a ride. Clackamas River Rd, South on 213 until I used up half of my lunch break. I turned around, took a few side roads, and returned to work about 5 minutes early. Nice ride and only 2 people tried to kill me.
