as in flat on my… or something else?

Well. Friday sucked. Thursday really sucked, then Friday came and iced it.

I skipped out of work a few minutes early, thinking I would go home and take a nap. I was still extremely wasted from moving on Thursday. So… I get to my apartment, park, walk around the building to my front door, insert key in the deadbolt, unlock, insert key in door handle, unlock, open, thud.

‘What?’

Thud, thud, slide.

‘Shit. What is that noise? More to hte point, why can’t I open a door that I had no trouble closing when I left for work this morning?’

The apartment is already dark, but I notice bits of shiny black plastic on the floor.

‘What is that?’

I finally slither through the door way. As my eyes start to adjust I realize my PC is on the floor, shattered. No, I am not exagerating. It is shattered.

Hmm… This is not good. Actually this is really, really bad. And my day just got a lot worse.

What happened?

Thursday night, one of the very last objects to enter my apartment was my PC. I placed it on top of a Dell PC I was given by a client, which is turn was on top of a stack of boxes stacked right next to the front door. The stack was about 4 1/2 feet high, add one small box and the Dell… My PC was laying on it’s side over 5 feet off the ground. At least it laid there until one of the Dell boxes in the stack settled, then the whole column shifted. Unfortunately, it shifted the wrong way to preserve my PC. The Sonata case responded to gravity’s embrace and crashed to the Earth, but (long pause) not before tagging my mother fucking TV on the way down. S/F/P!

The case landed on its face, which shattered. The top DVD drive was shoved into the chassis at least 1/2″. The 120mm case fan snapped off and is loose inside and I can no longer trust any component to be functional. Well, I should be able to reuse the processor and the memory. I will need to run a few tests to make sure, but they should be good. But, the optical drives are destroyed, literally. The hard drives, all four of them, can longer be trusted. The video card is probably… blah, blah, blah.

I give up.

So… I drove out to Iguana Micro and bought new hardware. $1700 later… I’m building up a new machine. Yes, it will be totally rockin’ once I get it running and all 40 million MS patches installed, but still. I really didn’t want to spend the money in light of everything else going on in my life. And I really didn’t want to spend the time rebuilding a machine when I need to be unpacking and settling in.

Ugh.

That is it. That’s about how my whole week went. I thought things were cool, when they weren’t . Everythign I thought I coudl trust seems to shift when I am not paying attention. And, as usual, all it requires is money to fix the immediate problem.

Fuck, I need a shrink.

So… I’m back. (Insert broadly stretched arms and a snear)
