| Another empty road… North of Long Beach, WA at the end of Hwy 4? |
It was an interesting day for me. I rode over 400 miles. It started very poorly, with a screaming alarm clock and a trip to the dentist. I had a tooth in need of repairs. BTW: I have a kick-ass dentist. He rides a Ducati SS. Ergo: He has to be a great dentist.
After my morning pleasures, I skipped town. I rode up to Long Beach, WA. I have never been up there. It is in M/C Journeys, so I thought I would give it a try.
It sucked.

Maybe that is too harsh? Let me start again. It was windy today. (It’s windy 95% of the time at the coast.) So every time I got near the Pacific, serious crosswinds would hammer me. Crosswinds and my high profile DL do not go together. I managed, but I thought Long Beach was boring and a general disappointment. “Yeah. I’ve seen touristy crap before. Thank you very much.” “Yes, I have smelled waffle cones before as well. Anything actually interesting around here?” “No? Why am I not surprised.” I know people who have fled this meca of trade and commerce. None with anything good to say about it. My journey was only interesting when I traveled to the far north of the pennisula. That’s where I took the ‘Empty Road’ photo, at the very end of the highway as it drops off into a single lane trail…

Washington rural roads are notably different from Oregon’s roadways. Washington’s roads are more refined, wider, with better, more consistent asphalt. Oregon roads tend to follow the topography more, cut deeper into the natural curves of the landscape. Not better, just different. Each presents challenges and benefits to a rider.

I know it is not easy to see in this image, but Venus is to the upper right of the sliver of the moon. Some people dig the sun. I prefer the moon. Late nights, far away from the city, the sky is a deep blue… a midnight blue. Have you ever seen that? When I was in Peru, the night sky was absolutely incredible. A whole new constilation AND no light pollution. I could see so many stars. I never knew the sky could be filled with so many pin points of light and possibility.
So there it is. My day with a slice of the emerging moon add Venus rising.
