Discretion is the better part of…

…something or other. I forget.

Anyway. I rode tonight. I had a few errands to run. Then, I went over to my Mom’s, continuing my “Some Assembly Required” projects. I scrolled through another hundred miles in the process. This of course gave me time to think.

Around 16:00, I was offered work on Thursday and Friday for the next four weeks, starting next week. That rather mellowed my jumpiness a bit. So I got thinking about all of the crap I have not gotten done. Like: finishing a book project that is 11 weeks overdue; working on the YZF: chain, tires, etc.; installing a power jack and heated grips on the DL; building up two more web sites; etc. All of which are important in the larger scheme of things, even if I have blown them off forever and a day. Add to that the basic reality the holiday travel can be very dangerous. More drunks. More cops. I can handle the drunks by not traveling late in the day while in the States. The cops… well let’s just say I have talked to enough lately to not want to have another take notice of me.

So, I am thinking about staying home. Of course, who knows what I will do when I get out of bed in the morning. I could really get a wild hair and blitz out of here. I have plans for the next two weekends after the holiday. After those events, I could consider another long run, maybe taking 3 or 4 days to go somewhere different. The weather will be changing by then. Maybe I could catch the fall colors in Yellowstone or something like that. <shrug> Time will tell.

For now, I need to exert a bit of self-control and try to get these outstanding projects finished up. So tonight, I am going to go to bed early, read a bit, then crash out.

Tomorrow is a new day, presenting new opportunities.
